counselling? Why an individual need counselling?
Counselling is a two way process of
communication that is on-going between one or more persons in which both
actively participate by information, education, and psychosocial support that
allows individuals to make decisions for preventive 
behaviours.

Counselling

Questioning: Always
ask open ended questions so that which helps us to enter deeper into the problems
of the clients
Paraphrasing: Repeating
in one’s own words what the client has said
Repeating: This
let the client feel calmness
Respecting: Respecting the clients the
feel s appreciating that people see and cope with
Empathizing: Experiencing
emotions that match another person’s emotions, knowing what the other persons
is thinking or feeling.
Reflection of feeling and meaning: Let
the client feels that you are listening him/her and understood what he/she want
to explain

RISK REDUCTION COUNSELLING:

      Any stimulus that cause an undesirable response or behaviour that could cause harm to self or danger to other, or all of these behaviours could be done in full knowledge or without knowledge is called Risk. Risk is UNCERTAINTY

MEANING OF RISK REDUCTION:-The process of reducing any behaviour that could cause harm, helping unlearn undesirable behaviour, learn new beneficial behaviour and to maintain/sustain new behaviour.

REMEMBER:-Risk reduction is a process

RISKY BEHAVIOURS

Personal sexual behaviour:

1.High number of sexual partners (Multiple Partners)
2.Exchanging sex for money/food/drugs(given or received)
3.Use of substances before sex

Other personal risk behaviour:

1.Skin piercing
2.Blood transfusion
3.Injecting drugs
4.Drinking alcohol

Partner sexual and other risk behaviours:

1.Partner has unprotected sex with other
2.Partner injects drugs
3.Male partner has sex with other male

WHAT IS HIGH RISK SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR?

UNPROTECTED SEXUAL INTERCOURSE WITH:-

       Any one who had unsafe sex with other men/women, 

       Anyone who has received untested blood or blood products or had unsafe sex with anyone who has         received untested blood or blood products.

WHY RISK REDUCTION COUNSELLING? 

Risk reduction is very important while doing counselling so that HIV and STI is preventable,
Changes in ATTITUDES and BEHAVIOUR is possible or Risk-taking is a behaviour
